A look at using PowerShell 7 across platforms
What happened
On October 22, 2026, Hacker News' front page picked up a developer post on using PowerShell. The post notes that Microsoft's PowerShell 7, also called PowerShell Core, is the cross-platform .NET Core-based version and installs free on Windows, Mac and Linux. It separates PowerShell 7 from the version bundled with Windows: Windows 11 still ships only the older Windows PowerShell, not PowerShell 7. The report covers cross-platform availability and preinstall status, and mentions no new release.
