Google school AI policy backlash and DuckDuckGo's pitch
What happened
Google said Tuesday that schools can turn off Gemini, but turning off other AI features also disables Google Search. The school AI policy drew opposition, and DuckDuckGo used it to pitch schools an alternative search service with AI features that can be switched off, offering migration help. On how much control schools have, earlier reports said disabling other AI features also disables Google Search; later reports said Google clarified that Gemini, Gemini Notebook and Search are off by default and schools can enable them separately.
