OpenAI engineer accused of building recording device with wife's chatbot account

Alleged OpenAI spy vibe-coded a surveillance device using his wife's chatbot account

OpenAI engineer Abdulrahman Alfozan was arrested on October 9, accused of building a recording device with his wife's chatbot account and hiding it in an executive meeting room. The indictment says the account entered prompts between September 24 and 30 covering continuous recording, Wi-Fi connection, live listening and SD card encryption. Whether the chatbot was ChatGPT is not stated.

Why it matters: The room where the device was allegedly placed is used for discussions of research, product plans and business strategy.
