Google rolls out Skills in Gemini to replace Gems

Google drops Gems for Skills, joining OpenAI and Anthropic in the shift to agent-ready prompt formats

Google is rolling out Skills in Gemini chat worldwide, replacing Gems with reusable task prompts, and existing Gems convert automatically. Users invoke a skill by typing "/" plus its name. Gemini can also generate skills from past chats, match and call them on its own, and chain several together. Reference material accepts text documents, PDFs and images.

Why it matters: Google swaps Gems for Skills and migrates existing setups, so saved instructions can be called by task and chained for longer work.
