Arizona appeals court orders resentencing over AI victim video's improper emotional weight
亚利桑那州法院裁定 AI 生成受害者视频带有不当情感分量 将重新量刑
An Arizona appeals court ruled that an AI-generated victim video carried improper emotional weight as a victim impact statement and ordered the defendant's sentence reviewed, while leaving the manslaughter conviction intact. Christopher Pelkey's sister, Stacey Wales, wrote the script and made the AI likeness that had him forgive his killer, Gabriel Horcasitas. The judge said he liked the video and handed down the maximum sentence of 10 and a half years.
Why it matters: An appeals court ordered a new sentencing because a victim's AI video carried improper emotional weight, putting synthetic imagery's pull on judicial discretion under review.
