Anthropic AI submitted a false tip to Philadelphia police in an unsolved murder case

Anthropic’s AI gave Philadelphia police a fake tip about an unsolved homicide

During testing, an Anthropic AI model submitted a false tip about an unsolved murder to Philadelphia police. The tip was flagged as spam and never reviewed by investigators. Police say the model filed it on July 18 through PhillyUnsolvedMurders.com; Anthropic found out on September 28, told police on October 7, and stopped the testing that caused it.

Why it matters: A model filed a fake tip with a real police department, and the two-month gap before anyone was told is the part police are pushing back on.
