Anthropic updates usage policy: sustained abuse of Claude can get accounts suspended
Being mean to Claude can now get your account suspended under Anthropic's new TOS
Anthropic updated its Claude usage policy to ban sustained and unnecessary abuse or cruelty, with violators facing warnings, rate limits, access restrictions, suspension or termination. Anthropic told The Verge the rule targets only extreme cases and does not cover normal frustration or research activity. The policy also widens restrictions on propaganda, weapons and non-consensual surveillance, requires human operators for autonomous hardware that could cause physical harm, and acknowledges possible exceptions for government contracts.
Why it matters: Anthropic now bans sustained, unnecessary abuse in its Claude usage rules, and extreme violators can face rate limits or account suspension.
