OpenAI says its AI models produced three scientific breakthroughs
OpenAI says its models proved the local smoothing conjecture in all dimensions, disproved the exponential time hypothesis, and gave a mathematical existence proof touching quantum chromodynamics and pure Yang–Mills theory. The math and computer science results were verified in Lean, with the natural-language and Lean proofs posted to a public GitHub repository. The physics result, part of the Yang–Mills Millennium Prize problem, is under review by experts including David Gross and still needs independent academic confirmation.
Why it matters: OpenAI put the math and computer science results through Lean verification and published the material, and outside experts are reviewing the physics claim.
