API credits benefit for eligible ChatGPT subscriptions

OpenAI now gives matching API credits on its $100, $200 and $500 subscription plans, usable with one API organization. Earlier this month Anthropic offered a similar perk on the matching Max and Team tiers, though its credits expire. Simon Willison subscribes to both and says the existing credits already cover these amounts, so he may build a public demo.

Why it matters: OpenAI's credit perk lands close to the near-identical subscription benefit Anthropic introduced this month.
