Anthropic cuts junior technical hiring as AI agents log six times the work hours of staff

Anthropic has nearly stopped hiring junior staff because AI agents now work six times as many hours

Anthropic's internal research shows junior roles fell from 27% to 9% of new technical hires, which the company attributes to stronger AI agents. Junior roles in the technical division dropped from 21% to 14% since early 2025. By August 2026, agents logged six times the work hours of human staff, and 19 times in the research division.

Why it matters: Anthropic compares the technical division's shrinking junior hiring with near-stable non-technical hiring, with the cuts concentrated where Claude handles complex work.
