Affirm’s strong move is not picking Claude Code; it paused normal delivery for a week and made 800+ engineers run agentic work from task selection to submitted PR. By December 2025, 80%+ of engineers already used AI dev tools weekly, so this was not basic enablement. It was a management decision to turn scattered power-user behavior into a default workflow.

I buy the boring parts: local-first development, human checkpoints, and a nine-engineer group spending two weeks defining the path. Financial software does not need more demos; it needs constraints that survive a 12-year monorepo, slow CI, manual review, and costly mistakes. The 60%+ agent-assisted PR number is loud, but the captured body does not give throughput, defect rate, or review-time deltas. Without those, don’t call it a productivity win yet.
