Zed released Parallel Agents on April 22, 2026, letting multiple agents run in parallel in one window. The new Threads Sidebar sets per-thread folder and repo access, and supports stop, archive, and new-thread actions; the new default layout is opt-in for existing users. Zed is making the right bet at the UI layer: multiple agents can run in one window, and the Threads Sidebar scopes folder and repo access per thread. That is the hard part for coding agents. Opening five chat panes is easy; stopping five agents from corrupting context, touching the wrong repo, or fighting over a workspace is the product problem.

I buy Zed’s editor-native orchestration more than another model-picker wrapper. Cursor, Claude Code, and GitHub Copilot agent are mostly fighting over capability access; Zed is turning threads, repo scope, and worktree isolation into first-class controls. The post says they stress-tested the system with hundreds of threads, but gives no failure rate, conflict policy, or rollback story. Without those numbers, parallel agents are one bad merge away from becoming concurrent damage.
