The 50:26 finish is loud, but the story is engineering margin, not intelligence. Honor’s Shandian is 1.65 meters tall, has 0.9-meter legs, and uses liquid cooling derived from consumer electronics in its joints. Last year’s best robot needed 2:40:42; this year’s winner beat Jacob Kiplimo’s 57:20 human half-marathon record. That jump screams mechanics, thermal control, and gait reliability before it says autonomy.

I don’t buy Beijing’s “high-level application” framing yet. Shandian hit a barrier near the finish, fell, and needed human help to resume. More than half the field still used remote control.
