Don't read this as "AI content is now traceable." The announcement itself admits the marks vanish after editing, screenshots, or format conversion. And the post doesn't disclose the watermarking method or false-positive rate—those two numbers are what tell you whether this actually works.

I'd discount this a bit: it reads more like a compliance checkbox than a real detection tool. The EU AI Act demands transparency, and Anthropic is checking that box. OpenAI and Google have both researched similar watermarking but never turned it on by default at scale, precisely because it's so easy to bypass.
