Codex GA is less about availability and more about OpenAI turning a coding agent into managed enterprise software. Slack delegation, the Codex SDK, GitHub Actions, admin environment controls, and analytics dashboards map cleanly onto procurement, compliance, and engineering-management workflows.

The numbers are not soft: daily usage is up over 10x since early August, GPT-5-Codex served 40 trillion tokens in three weeks, nearly all OpenAI engineers use it, and internal weekly PR merges rose 70%. The catch is pricing. Cloud tasks start counting toward usage on October 20, but the post gives no price. That matters because Cursor, Devin, and GitHub Copilot are all fighting for the same engineering budget. OpenAI is using ChatGPT workspaces as distribution, which is an ugly advantage for everyone else.
