Blackstone plans $30B Japan AI data center investment over 3–5 years

Blackstone President Jonathan Gray told Nikkei the firm will invest $30B in Japanese AI data centers over the next 3–5 years, adding over 1GW of new capacity on top of its existing 500MW in Japan. Gray sees the current AI investment phase as very early and says the real risk is compute shortage, not infrastructure overbuild. Separately, Blackstone, Apollo, and Broadcom launched the AI XPV platform this month, aiming to deliver over 20GW to frontier labs like OpenAI and Anthropic by 2028; the first $35B tranche will support 1GW of Anthropic deployment at Fluidstack data centers.
