Training military models on classified data is a bigger jump than letting Claude answer classified questions. The hard detail is already ugly: Claude is used in classified settings, including target analysis for Iran. The proposed training data includes surveillance reports and battlefield assessments. A retrieval system still gives you permissioning, logs, and isolation. Fine-tuning pushes sensitive patterns into weights, where audit boundaries get muddy fast.

I don’t buy “secure environments” as the soothing phrase here. They can constrain the training room and access path. They do not solve leakage through distillation, eval sets, red-team traces, vendor ops, or model behavior after update cycles. Palantir and Anduril mostly sell workflow and data plumbing. Anthropic moving closer to classified training data changes the blast radius.
