SpaceX AI1’s weak spot is not the 6-8 ms LEO latency; it is the operating model behind a million-satellite compute fleet. One satellite peaks at 150 kW, sustains about 120 kW for compute, and maps to roughly one NVIDIA GB300 rack. Those numbers are plausible enough. The hard part starts when Musk jumps to mass production by late 2027 and “up to a million” satellites.

Ground AI data centers are brutal because power, cooling, networking, maintenance, and depreciation have to work every hour. AI1 gives concrete hooks: 250 W/m² solar panels, 1,400 W/m² radiators, and 1 Tbps laser links. It does not give cost per token, service life, failure replacement cadence, or thermal degradation curves. This sells the image of gigawatt orbital AI compute better than it competes with AWS, CoreWeave, or xAI’s terrestrial clusters.
