Alphabet is pushing AI capex into debt-market territory, and that says more than another Gemini launch. The title gives $80B; the body gives only one line: demand from enterprises and consumers exceeds supply. It does not give the instrument, rate, maturity, investors, or timetable. That is not a routine funding update. It is data centers, power, GPUs, and TPUs being packaged for financial markets.

I don’t buy the clean PR line about demand outrunning supply. AWS, Microsoft, and Oracle have used the same justification for AI infrastructure spend. Alphabet is different because it already has TPU silicon, Search cash flow, and Google Cloud. If even that machine wants an $80B raise, inference economics are eating the story. Cheap terms would validate the buildout; expensive terms would say AI gross margin is leaking into power and hardware.
