Scaffolding owns prompts, tool descriptions, and behavioral constraints; Harness runs model calls, tool calls, and control loops. That helps practitioners debug failures as policy, context, or execution bugs instead of blaming Claude or GPT every time.

I like the restraint here, but taxonomy is not architecture. LangChain, AutoGen, and OpenAI’s Agents SDK have been mixing these layers for a while under different labels. Hugging Face’s contribution is cleaning up the post-ICLR 2026 agent vocabulary into interfaces people can argue about. The post gives no benchmark and no reproducible experiment, so read it as an engineering glossary, not evidence of agent capability moving forward.
