Anthropic’s nearly $45B SpaceX deal is too large to read as routine cloud diversification. The filing says three years, SpaceX, and compute for Claude; it does not give GPU class, capacity, unit pricing, or whether power, networking, and data-center services are bundled. Those missing terms decide whether this is bulk inference capacity or a training-scale wager.

I don’t fully buy Anthropic’s neat trust-and-safety storyline after this. The company has sold itself as the sober enterprise counterweight, but its biggest visible compute expansion now runs through Elon Musk’s infrastructure stack. OpenAI locked itself to Azure early; xAI built Colossus for speed. Anthropic looks less independent here and more boxed in by the compute market. $45B over three years lands straight on Claude margins and pricing pressure.
